Historical Background

The 13-meter-long motorboat supplied to Italian battleships (such as the Littorio-class) during World War II is officially designated as the Motobarca da 13 metri (13-meter Motorboat).

Overview and Purpose
During WWII, the Italian Royal Navy (Regia Marina) equipped its capital ships with a standardized suite of ancillary utility vessels for transport, logistical support, and ship-to-shore liaison duties. The Motobarca da 13 metri was one of the largest motorized service boats carried on board, utilizing specialized deck cradles and heavy-duty boat cranes to be launched or recovered.

Key Characteristics
• Function: General-purpose utility launch, personnel transport, and officer ship-to-shore liaison.
• Complementary Craft: It was carried alongside other standard sizes, including the Motobarca da 12,25 metri (diesel launch) and the Motobarca da 10 metri, along with standard unmotorized rowed lifeboats (lance).
• Design: Features a fully enclosed cabin section for the command staff or passengers, paired with an open aft deck area.

Additional Information

The model was created based on blueprints, photos and historical documentation. It was created with precision in detail and in real units of measurement to be a faithful digital reproduction of the original.
