Historical Background

The Dressel 6B is a prominent type of ancient Roman transport amphora produced from the mid-1st century BC to the 4th century AD, explicitly manufactured for the containment and maritime trade of olive oil.

Key Characteristics & Origin
• Contents: Exclusively used for transporting olive oil (unlike its counterpart, the Dressel 6A, which carried wine).
• Origin: Primarily produced in Northern Italy (Cisalpina) and the Istrian peninsula (e.g., famous workshops like Fažana and Loron).
• Morphology:
• It has a thick collared or band-like rim (orlo a fascia o a ciotola).
• A relatively short, cone-shaped or cylindrical neck.
• Vertical handles with an oval/elliptical cross-section.
• A pear-shaped or ovoid sagging body ending in a short, solid button spike (puntale a bottone).
• Dimensions: Typically around 85 cm tall and 35–40 cm wide.
• Stamps: The rims or shoulders frequently display epigraphic stamps indicating the manufacturer (officinator) or the elite estate owner (dominus), including prominent figures like C. Laecanius Bassus or later Imperial properties.

Distribution
Dressel 6B amphorae are widely distributed throughout the Po Valley (Pianura Padana), Noricum, Pannonia, the Amber Route, and across the broader Mediterranean basin. They trace the thriving agricultural economy and military supply routes of the early Roman Empire.

Additional Information

The object is made of quad polygons only with unwrapped and non-overlapping UV.
Two different sets of textures are included (color, ambient occlusion, roughness, specular, normal and bump) to get the same amphora with two different materials.
