IANTD EXPEDITION SCIRE' WRECK 2015

The italian submarine Scirè sunk on August 10, 1942, during a mission to attack the harbour of Haifa. The submarine was depth charged and probably hit by cannon shots. After some years of research and diving expeditions on the wreck, IANTD Expedition gave us the task of reconstructing a digital 3D version of the Scirè wreck. We made a preliminary 3D model of the hull of the submarine. With this 3D model we gave indications to IANTD to make the proper measurements on the real wreck to enable us to reconstruct the final 3D model as accurate as possible. The IANTD divers went again on the wreck with render pictures of the 3D model as reference and they made all the measurements we asked. In this way we were able to reproduce a very detailed digital 3D model of the wreck, with the main damaged parts in the right position. Before and after the diving expedition we made many briefing by video conference to plan and constantly verify the work.
