Historical Background

Primarily deployed during World War I, its exceptional performance deeply impressed the Italian Royal Navy (Regia Marina). Following the war, Italy received these guns as reparations and tasked the engineering firm Odero-Terni-Orlando (OTO) with replicating and modifying the design. This reverse-engineered linage became the ubiquitous OTO 100/47 series, which served as the standard light-calibre and anti-aircraft armament across almost all Italian cruisers, torpedo boats, and submarines during World War II.

Technical Comparison: Škoda K10 vs. OTO 100/47
While the OTO 100/47 was a virtual reproduction of the Škoda K10's internal mechanics, the Italian versions introduced key structural updates—most notably loose liners to simplify barrel replacement and specialized high-angle mounts for anti-aircraft defense.

Operational Evolution
• Austro-Hungarian Origin: The Škoda K10 entered service in 1912. It served as the secondary/tertiary battery on semi-dreadnought battleships and as the main primary armament on Tátra-class destroyers and Helgoland-class scout cruisers.
• The Italian OTO Variants: After inheriting the ships post-WWI, the Italians adapted the gun for multiple ship profiles:
• Twin Mounts (Mod. 1924, 1927, 1928): Deployed in shared cradles on heavy and light cruisers. They featured adjustable electric trunnions to accommodate steep elevation angles for barrage anti-aircraft fire.
• Single Mounts (Mod. 1931, 1935, 1937): Simpler, hand-worked shields utilized heavily on Italian torpedo boats and corvettes.
• Submarine Mounts: A slightly shortened version (4.94 meters) fitted to the decks of the vast majority of the Italian submarine fleet.
• Global Footprint: Beyond Italy and Austria-Hungary, variants of this family were utilized by the Soviet Union (notably the "Minizini" twin mounts on the cruiser Krasnyi Kavkaz), Spain, Sweden, Greece, and Argentina.
